HEART UK is currently involved in the development of a Patient Decision Aid (PDA) on cholesterol.

PDAs provide factual information and are designed to help people think about their own health care decisions. The PDAs have been commissioned by the Department of Health and HEART UK has been invited to participate in the organisation of a Focus Group for the Cholesterol PDA.

We are looking for individuals who have had or who may be at risk of a cardiovascular event, and who have been advised by a medical professional that lowering their cholesterol level would be beneficial. if you have a lifestyle related elevated cholesterol (not an inherited condition such as FH) we would like to hear from you.
.
The Forum will take place in February 2013, venue and location to be confirmed.

Careful everyone. This could be the thin edge of the wedge. A survey amongst those who are on statins, lowering cholesterol, let's put everyone on statins!!!!!! Make it compulsory!!!! Those of you who would like to do this, do this for the right reasons.

It does say it isnt for those with an inherited condition which should throw it open to those whose lifestyle factors could be enough to see the necessary changes. Lets hope a good cross section of people respond :)

Does high lipoprotein(a) (93.1) count as inherited cholesterol problem? If not, I'd be interested in the forum.

I would be interested in this as I have had my prescription changed and reduced without explanation. I am also dealing with a hiatus hernia (non-operable) in the chest and take medication for this also.

I also wonder what "decision aid" means. Does it mean weighing up your absolute risk of CVD and then making an informed decision about whether the risk of medication outweighs the benefits or does it mean your cholesterol is over the limit we have set, so you must take medication for the rest of your life...oh and most people don't get side effects so I don't know what's the matter with you.
Sorry to sound cynical.
