Well, 2 weeks off my fibrate and my numbers have increased - alot!! Trigs up to 2.7 which I was expecting, but my total has gone up to 6.7 which was a massive surprise. My consultant said my total shouldnt change as it takes around 3 months for total cholesterol to change... So straight back on the fibrates, and we will retest in 4 weeks...
It does, of course, make me wonder if the fat free diet has had any impact or is it just the fibrates that have been doing all the work?

Hi Traci,
Look on the bright side. If it is the fibrates, you can go back to a relatively normal diet and you've lost weight as an added bonus.
Interesting about levels rising in 2 weeks though, I'm sure there's still a lot "they" don't know about lipid metabolism....mostly that it's incredibly intricate and complicated.

High six is still a long way below fourteen, so diet could still be doing something. It only ever cut mine by a quarter, although I was never as strict as you seem to be.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear your news. Has anyone suggested trying a low carb diet? lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/f...

I have dysbetalipoproteinaemia, carbs dont impact but fat does hence the fat free diet :)
